OUR STORY
Reawakening Africa’s Fragrance Legacy
Our story begins in the 19th century, pre-colonial Western Africa, as our ancestors invited European, Brazilian, West Asian and North African traders to their compound to share rare goods with them. Our family-run fabric, oil, and spice business expanded and rebranded in 1983, and since then we have shared our house with communities of wonderful people around the world.
As one of the oldest fragrance houses in Africa, Ajaba House is excited to reintroduce the world to fragrant, rich African spices and essential oils rooted in Yorubaland and shared between ancient trans-Saharan trade routes.
These historic paths once buzzed with the exchange of revered perfume oils and spices, linking noble families of West Africa, North Africa, West Asia and Europe together, thus laying the groundwork for global fragrance commerce. Perfume, a luxurious commodity that in ancient times was reserved for nobility and spiritual purpose, has long captivated the global market, but it's time to recognize Africa as one of the original cradles of olfactory artistry.
With the launch of a brand new scent, "ÀMÌ" in 2025, Ajaba House promises to infuse the global market with scents that echo Africa's timeless elegance. As we celebrate this revival, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and invite you to rediscover the essence of Africa through our family.
